10 Cheap Ways to Stay Warm Without Heater

Winter is coming. Many people would simply blast their heater to keep their houses warm.

Heaters consume energy: electricity, gas, fuel, or wood, and using heat beads or BBQ briquettes indoors is dangerous as they give off carbon monoxide as they burn.

But of course there are some other options to reduce energy consumption. Here are 10 cheap ways to stay warm without a heater:

1. Thermal Hot Water Bottle

Using it is easy: put boiling water inside the thermal hot water bottle and keep it on your lap, in your bed (around 10 minutes before going to bed to warm your bed), or on the floor so you can keep your feet warm.

2. Layer Up

Layer up your body with jackets, blankets, thick gloves and thick socks, especially with wool material. Wool gives you lots of warmth.

3. Drink Warm Liquids

Not only it’s nice to hold a warm mug, but the warm liquid also helps to raise your core body temperature.

4. Stay in a Smaller Room

Stay in a smaller room with a closed door instead of the big living room, so the cold air doesn’t come in too freely.

5. Use Rugs to Cover Your Floors

When you have enough heat from the sun in the afternoon, the heat can escape through floorboards. But if you cover your floorboards with rugs, especially those made out of wool, the rugs can retain the heats. They also feel warm and comfortable on your feet.

6. Use Thermal Curtain

Thermal curtains insulate not only cold but also heat. This means, once put, you don’t have to worry about taking them off in the summer. When the sun is up, open the curtain and let the sunlight come in to heat the room. When the night arrives, close the curtain to retain the heat from the sun in the afternoon.

7. Use Weather Strips

Weatherstrips block out cold air. Use them to seal any cracks in the windows and doors.

8. Use Door Snake

door snake can drastically reduce cold air coming in through the closed door and prevent the heat to escape to another room.

9. Keep Other Sources of Heat Open

When you take a hot shower, keep your door open so the heat can enter the room. When you finish baking something, keep the oven door open to let the heat from the oven out and warm the room. You can even just stand near the oven to keep your body warm.

10. Light Physical Exercise

Running on the spot, jumping jacks, dancing, etc for around five minutes will warm your body.
