Black Friday is coming soon. With the Covid still around, combined with more companies opting for selling their products online, many of us would prefer to enjoy the Black Friday Sale from the comfort of our home: online shopping.
However, there are things that you should not buy online for various reasons. Here is a list of things you should not buy online.
1. Large Appliances
Reason: There are several reasons why you shouldn’t buy large appliances online. Washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc, need to be closely examined. Things like how smooth a drawer or a door is opened and closed, can’t be examined through a monitor.
Another reason for not buying large appliances online is if there’s something wrong with it, returning may be complicated and expensive.
2. Expensive Jewelry
Reason: certificate of authenticity can be forged. Therefore, it’s better to buy it from a brick and mortar store that has a well established reputation.
3. Bicycles
Reason: bicycles need to be closely examined. You want to make sure the seat is comfortable, and when things go wrong, you can bring it back for repair.
4. Mattresses and Pillows
Reason: mattresses and pillows need to be tested for comfort. You can’t do this just by looking at them.
5. Swimsuits and Underwear
Reason: size matters, and size charts can differ from one store to another. It’s always easier and simpler to try the physical product than trying to work out the measurement which may be inaccurate.
6. Clothes from Unknown Brand
Reason: just like swimsuits and underwear, it can be tricky and impractical to try to work out the measurement just by looking at the product instead of trying it on physically.
7. Shoes
Reason: Unless you know the brands and are buying them from their official distributors, it’s not a good idea to buy them online. You need to try the shoes on by walking on them, especially if you’re buying shoes for hiking, running, or walking long distance.
8. Perfume and other health and beauty products that you’ve never tried before
Reason: Just because someone or a popular magazine says such and such perfume (or make up) is good for women or men, it is not necessarily true for you because we are, after all, unique individuals. We have our own taste and might be different from the majority of people or reviewers from a popular magazine.
9. Musical Instruments
Reason: This rule especially applies to new learners where they need to have a feel on how a musical instrument sounds.
10. Any Items That Requires Matching Colour
Reason: Things like paint, or any furniture or decorative items that need to match a certain theme, can have different colours due to differences in display settings on your device or light setting on their device when they take the picture. So always buy this type of things in the store, when you can see with your eyes, not through a monitor.
